Fire Safety
Today we had an opportunity to explore the kids' fire safety house with our local fire fighters. We learned about checking the door with the back of our hands (from top to highest point we can reach while crawling) to see if it is hot before opening the door if there is a fire. We talked about having a meeting point at home if there is a fire, such as the neighbor's yard or our mailbox. The firefighters also talked to us about some safety tips to remember, for example, never leave the handle on a pan sticking out on a stove, never climb on shelves to reach snacks, never touch cigarette lighters, and how to call 911 for help. We also discussed that it is very important to know your phone number, street address, parent's full name (not mommy or daddy), etc. in case of an emergency. Talk to your child to find out what other information they remember from the fire fighters' visit, and review the information sent home in their packets with them.

Sight Word Practice Website
Here is a fun website for practicing sight words with your child, and you can get some exercise at the same time. You and your child can Karate chop, kick, etc. as you read the words together. Have fun earning your belts together!

Fall Festival
We had an amazing time at the TCE Fall Festival on Friday night! There were so many students and parents who came out to support which made this such a fun event. I was working at the "Wham the can" game station on the kindergarten hall, and had a chance to see some of our class. Leave me a note to tell me some of the things you did at the festival. I would love to hear from you!

CPS
We are having a lot of fun with our smart board this year in kindergarten. One of the tools the students are really enjoying using is our CPS program. Every child gets a remote control to respond to questions on our topic. Our most recent CPS activity was a rhyming game, and the children did a good job choosing the correct answers. What was really fun to hear is Nicolas exclaim "Wow I love this school" when we first used this tool in our class. I am excited too and exclaim just like Nicolas "Wow, I love to see my students enjoying learning!"

Community Helper Day
We had an awesome time today with all of the community helpers who came out to share important facts about their jobs, and how they help us each day. The children loved seeing the firefighters put on their uniforms, and listen to how their voices changed in the mask (although we did have a couple of students who were a little scared but after some coaxing they were able to go touch the firefighter in their uniform). A few students got to demonstrate how we stop, drop, and roll if our clothes are on fire. We learned about different coins and reasons we need money from the banker, and about buying homes from the real estate agent. We also learned about how soldiers and police officers help to keep us safe, and learned some important safety rules like never talk to strangers or touch a gun. This was a fabulous activity for all of our Kindergarten classes. Thank you community helpers for coming out to share with us and for all you do every day. You are the best!

McTeacher Night
Wow! It was a lot of fun to see so many parents, students, and teachers come out for the TCE McTeacher Night at the McDonalds on HWY 196. I had a fun time having dinner with my daughter, and visiting with the TCE family. Did you get to come to the TCE McTeacher night? If so leave me a comment to let me know what time did you come, who did you see, what did you eat, or who did you come with to McDonalds. I would love to hear from you. McDonalds,we're loving it, for supporting our school by donating 20% of the proceeds raised from 5pm-8pm to our school. Thanks for your support!

I hope everyone enjoyed their mini 4 day vacation. We should all be rejuvenated and ready for another great nine weeks. Last week we Skyped Mrs. Judy's kindergarten classroom to share information we have been learning about community helpers. The student's were very excited to use this technology for communicating with her classroom. We shared one of our favorite books about community helpers was "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street", and offered to loan our book to Mrs. Judy's class. Mrs. Judy's class shared their favorite community helper after their class voted. Our class will vote to see who our favorite community helper is also, and then we will skype Mrs. Judy's class to share our results too. This was a great tool for communicating and sharing information about community helpers! Thanks Mrs. Judy's class!

It's Library Day!
This week our class went to the library to hear a story with Mrs. Lewis, our school's media specialist. Mrs. Lewis read the book "My Big Dog", and the students really enjoyed talking about the book and their pets at home. Don't forget to remind your child to bring their book every Tuesday so that our class can earn Mrs. Lewis' special suprise!
