Mother Goose Cocoa Shop
Here is a video presentation from our Mother Goose Cocoa Shop activity. The video clips were also posted on our class webpage when we had our performances, however they are not viewable at home at this time due to problems with uploading with our webblender program. The students enjoyed watching these clips in class (but they are a little dark), but reported they could not view them from home. I will let you know when the problem with our webpage is fixed, but please continue to visit our class blog for updates about our classroom activities. Have a wonderful day!

TheWind
Our current Open Court topic for reading is the wind. We have read a variety of stories about the wind, and we learned some important facts. Ask your child to share with you some of the things they have learned about the wind at home. We made wind socks in class, and experimented to see what happens when the wind blows by pretending the air from the air conditioner unit was the wind blowing outside. The students enjoyed this art project and experiment as you can tell from our pictures.

Turkey Spotlight
These students did an awesome job decorating their turkey's at home for the monthly family project. We sent home Christmas trees for our December family project, and look forward to seeing some more creative works. Keep a watch out for our favorite tree decorations post coming soon! Family projects are due by Tuesday, December 7.
Gotta Keep Reading!
We have had a busy first week back to school after the Thanksgiving Break, and we are so excited about all our students have accomplished during the first semester. We met our schools AR reading goal right before the break, and everyone gathered outside at the end of the day to celebrate. The children had an awesome time singing and dancing with Dr. Rodriguez and Dr. Moody who were leading the reading rally from on top of the school's roof! The children loved seeing this! We are still focused on reading independently and with someone at home or school, so please remember that you can bring your child to curiosity shop on Tuesday and Thursday's to take AR test in the library after school. Also, set aside some time each night for quiet reading together! This week we had a visit from our school guidance counselor, Mrs. Quarles, and she also read and discussed a book with our class about being fair, taking turns, and not always having to be first. It was a really cute story, and the students even helped Mrs. Quarles discover another lesson in the story which was really interesting. Talk to your child about the visit to find out about the lessons they learned from the story, and about their favorite story we've read at school this semester. As always, please feel free to leave us a comment too, about your favorite books you've read together at home as well. Have a great weekend, and don't forget to read a good book together!

November Soar Student
Too cute!
Today I overheard a cute conversation between Chloe and Keagan that I just had to share. Keagan said he was so glad we were having a Thanksgiving meal for lunch, and that he thinks we have the best school and the best teachers at TCE. Chloe agreed, and said "Yeah, we have great food because we have good cooks and we have great teachers". Keagan said "I think we have the best students because we do our work and listen to our teachers when they tell us what to do on our work and tell us how to do it". And on and on they went talking about the assets of our school like little adults. It was soooo cute! I wish I could have recorded the conversation. One of those priceless moments teacher's get to enjoy at school!

Premiere Party
On Wednesday, November 10, we had a special Premiere Party, to celebrate all of the winners from the International Media Festival from last school year. Dr. Rodriguez gave every class popcorn and drinks to enjoy while watching the winning projects. The students really enjoyed this special treat, and we are so proud of all of the winners from TCE! Please encourage your child to think of a special project that they can enter into the media festival for this school year, so that they can be our next TCE media festival winner.

Walking for our Health!
Our class decided to walk 100 laps during recess this year to help us stay healthy and fit. We have been talking about keeping our bodies healthy and eating healthy foods in health this year, and our class decided this would be a good way to stay fit. We have already walked 11 laps together so far (some students have chosen to run), and we record our laps on a 100's chart each day that we walk. We will celebrate with a variety of healthy snacks when we reach our goal. Yummy, everybody is looking forward to earning our healthy snacks. Join us at home too by deciding on a way to stay fit together by exercising, riding bikes, walking around your neighborhood, etc. Have a marvelous Monday!

Election Day!
To all of our parents we wanted to remind you that today is Election Day, so please don't forget to vote! Today we learned a few facts about voting, and held our own mock election for class president. Each student had a chance to cast a secret vote, and then we counted the votes to see who had the majority. Congratulations to Jada our new class president. We also read a book called "Yes You Can" about our current president, Barack Obama. Adediwura said "The reason we're reading this book is so that we can get information about our president". Nice going Adediwura reminding us about one of our reading standards! Everyone received an "I Voted" sticker after casting their vote. Parents, if you go to vote today please share with your child some information about the process and show them your sticker too!

Fire Safety
Today we had an opportunity to explore the kids' fire safety house with our local fire fighters. We learned about checking the door with the back of our hands (from top to highest point we can reach while crawling) to see if it is hot before opening the door if there is a fire. We talked about having a meeting point at home if there is a fire, such as the neighbor's yard or our mailbox. The firefighters also talked to us about some safety tips to remember, for example, never leave the handle on a pan sticking out on a stove, never climb on shelves to reach snacks, never touch cigarette lighters, and how to call 911 for help. We also discussed that it is very important to know your phone number, street address, parent's full name (not mommy or daddy), etc. in case of an emergency. Talk to your child to find out what other information they remember from the fire fighters' visit, and review the information sent home in their packets with them.
