Website for Practicing Letter Recognition

Here is a website for practicing letter recognition. Students who are in our letter recognition practice group used this website today during our listening time to review letters independently. You can also visit this site at home with your child to review as well. Thanks!

P.S. Remember my motto "Parent + Teacher = Student Success!".

Guidance Visit

Mrs. Quarles, our school guidance counselor, visited our class this month to discuss good touch/bad touch. She shared important tips for our students to remember to keep themselves safe. One rule she shared was tell somebody (an adult) who will believe you if there is a problem. Talk to your child to find out what other important rules they learned about during her visit. Mrs. Quarle's character education word is "dependability" for the month of September. Ask your child to share ways they can be dependable at school and at home!

Our Favorite Things To Do...

Our class wrote a class list about our favorite things to do in class. This was our first step in the writing process called Pre-Writing. We then took our list of words and added it to a program called Tagxedo. The children were excited to see which words were the biggest, and which words were the smallest. The biggest words were the choices that our class chose the most in our writing activity. Check out our finished project above, and see if you can figure out what activity the majority of our students said was their favorite thing to do!

Sailing into a wonderful year!

This has been a wonderful beginning to a new school year. The students are working hard, and learning our classroom rules and expectations. We are currently studying the following topics in class - Math (sorting and classifying), Reading (school), Social Studies (connecting themes), and Science (matter). The students had a lot of fun searching for different types of matter in our class on our "Matter Hunt". We introduced the first sight word this week (the), and are reviewing letters and sounds on a daily basis. We have so much to accomplish and learn this year, and I know your child will be able to do their best with support from home and school. Together we can help your child reach their goals as they begin their academic career. Remember, parent + teacher = student success! Visit our blog throughout the year to see what we are currently learning about in the classroom, and to review videos, pictures, etc. that may be posted from time to time as well. The forecast ahead is for smooth sailing into a great year for learning in Kindergarten!

Time to relax!

I hope you have had a wonderful and relaxing break! Did you take time to play in the water at the beach? Did you watch an interesting television show? Did you run and play with your friends outside all day? I would love to hear about your adventures, so please leave a comment to let me know how you spent your break with your family and friends!
